The Essence of Realism
Transform Your Models with the World’s Most Versatile Wash.
If Nuln Oil is "liquid talent" for machinery, Agrax Earthshade is its organic counterpart. This deep, earthy brown shade is designed to flow into the recesses of your miniatures, providing instant definition and a "lived-in" feel. It is the go-to tool for hobbyists looking to add grit, warmth, and realistic weathering to their armies, making it an absolute staple for both historical and fantasy wargaming.
Why Agrax Earthshade is a Hobby Essential
Natural Shadows: Unlike black washes which can look harsh, the brown tones of Agrax Earthshade provide a softer, more natural shadow. It is perfect for shading skin, bone, fur, wood, and gold.
The "Grimdark" Specialist: If you want your miniatures to look like they’ve been marching through mud and trenches, Agrax is your best friend. It dulls down bright colors just enough to give them a battle-worn, realistic aesthetic.
The Perfect Gold Companion: While silver shines with black washes, gold truly comes to life with Agrax Earthshade. It settles into the filigree of golden armor, giving it an antique, heavy, and prestigious appearance.
Unrivaled Flow: Formulated to break surface tension, this shade seeks out the deepest details of a sculpt. It ensures that every belt buckle, pouch, and facial feature stands out with minimal effort.
How to Master Agrax Earthshade
The "Organic" Wash: Use Agrax over browns, tans, and greens to create a rugged, forest or desert look. It is especially effective on Greenskin skin or military fatigues.
Weathering Surfaces: To simulate dirt or rust streaks, apply a small amount of Agrax to a rivet or joint and drag the brush downward. As it dries, it leaves a faint, dirty trail that looks like rainwater grime.
Controlled Application: While you can apply Agrax over a whole model for a dirty look, applying it specifically to the recesses (recess shading) keeps the raised surfaces clean while still providing deep, high-contrast shadows.

The Verdict Agrax Earthshade is perhaps the most versatile tool in the Citadel range. It bridges the gap between a "clean" paint job and a realistic miniature. Whether you are painting a single skeleton or a massive tank, a few drops of Agrax will add a level of detail and professional finish that is impossible to achieve with standard paints alone.
