The Master of Metallic Highlights
The Easiest Way to Achieve Battle-Worn Steel.
Necron Compound is a specialized tool in the Citadel range, specifically formulated for the Dry line. Unlike traditional liquid paints, it has a thick, almost paste-like consistency. It is designed to be caught on the bristles of a drybrush and applied to the raised edges of a model to create instant, realistic metallic highlights. Whether you are painting an endless legion of Necrons or the battered plate of an Iron Warrior, this paint is the secret to high-speed, high-quality results.
Why Necron Compound is a Hobby Essential
Instant Definition: Because of its unique texture, Necron Compound only adheres to the sharpest edges and highest points of a miniature. This makes it incredibly easy to define complex machinery, vents, and armor joints without accidentally flooding the recesses.
Realistic Weathering: It provides a bright, "scratched metal" look. By lightly drybrushing it over a darker silver (like Leadbelcher), you can simulate the look of worn steel where the paint has been chipped away by combat.
The Necron Standard: Named after the ancient mechanical dynasts, this paint is perfect for achieving that classic, cold living-metal look. It allows you to highlight hundreds of warriors in a fraction of the time it would take to edge-highlight them manually.
Versatile Utility: Beyond metal armor, it is excellent for highlighting the "toothed" edges of chainswords, the barrels of heavy weapons, or adding a metallic sheen to dark rocky bases and industrial terrain.
How to Master Necron Compound
The Drybrush Technique: Use a dedicated Citadel Drybrush. Dip the tip into the pot, then wipe almost all of the paint off onto a paper towel until you can barely see any pigment on your hand.
Light Passes: Lightly "flick" the brush across the edges of the model. The tiny amount of Necron Compound left on the bristles will catch on the raised detail, creating a sharp, bright silver line.
The "Zenithal" Metal Look: Start with a black primer and a heavy drybrush of a darker silver. Then, use a very light, top-down drybrush of Necron Compound to simulate light catching the highest points of the metal.
